The Ukrainian minister of family, youth and sports has revealed renovation works for the stadium that will host the Euro 2012 final in Kiev are five months behind schedule.
Ravil Safiullin was quoted by news agency Interfax as saying the Olimpiysky National Sports Complex situation “depressing”, having visited recently with Ukrainian vice prime minister Borys Kolesnikov. “I am not a builder, I cannot say for sure, but we have to do everything possible to catch up with the delay, so that Euro 2012 will take place,” he added. According to Polish website Futbol News, Martin Kallen, the UEFA director in charge of Euro 2012 preparations, said the governing body may downsize the event from eight to six host cities if it is felt stadia will not be ready in time. Kallen added UEFA’s main concerns at the moment are the Polish city of Wroclaw and Ukraine’s Lviv. |
