Premier League ponders bigger “parachute” payments

The English Premier League could extend its “parachute” payments for relegated clubs to cover four years instead of the current two.
UK newspaper The Guardian reports that the extra payments are being considered as part of a package of financial support for clubs in the Football League, the three divisions below England’s top tier. The Premier League clubs will make a final decision on the package in June. The parachute payments for relegated clubs go up from £12 million per year to £16 million per year this summer. The total value of the 2007 to 2010 financial support from the Premier League to the Football League was £90 million, including £5.4 millino for youth development. |
