Allegations for match-fixing continues in Italy
There have been fresh allegations of match-fixing with more clubs being implicated in the scandal in the Italian league. The Italian football federation is still dealing with the fall-out of the 2006 scandal that rocked Serie A.
Evidence that was used in a trail related to the original investigation is leading to Inter Milan looking suspicious of match-fixing as well. Inter was handed the title in 2006 following the punishment and relegation of Juventus as a result of the controversy. The other clubs that were punished with point deductions at that time include AC Milan, Lazio, Reggina and Fiorentina. The trial of former Juventus manager Luciano Moggi in Naples is the occasion in which Moggi's lawyers have produce tapped phone conversations that implicate Inter and other Italian clubs. It sounds as though Inter requested the use of specific referees - the club and criminal prosecutors have dismissed these concerns. Inter Milan is well on its way to a fifth Serie A title in a row and the club is also in a strong position in the Champions League run following their 3-1 win against Barcelona in the semi-finals on Tuesday. The Italian football federations has said that "The unit will ask to acquire all the material produced in court." |
