London 2012 suffers £27m budget cut

The London Olympics has had its budget cut by £27 million as the new UK government begins a round of spending cuts aimed at reducing the country's public deficit.
Reuters reports that the cuts will hit the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which is building venues and infrastructure for the Games. The UK Sport and Olympics minister Hugh Robertson said the ODA had assured him that the Olympics project would not be compromised by the cuts. ODA chairman John Armitt said: “This saving will be found by continuing to make efficiencies in the way the project is delivered as we have already done in the past. “Our regular budget updates have consistently shown that we are on schedule and within budget with savings of around 600 million pounds already delivered to keep us on track.” |
