Blackpool postpones opening EPL fixture after ground delay

Blackpool’s return to the top-flight of the English domestic football has been delayed by two weeks after the club announced improvements to its Bloomfield Road ground would not be ready in time for the opening round of the Premier League.
The Seasiders said they could not give the Premier League a 100 per cent guarantee that work on the east stand would be finished by Saturday August 14. Blackpool's stadium currently has a capacity of around 12,000 - the smallest in the Premier League – but improvements will increase it to 17,600. The club's opening-day fixture against Wigan Athletic has been switched to an away game and its first Premier League home fixture will now be against Fulham on August 28. "Following ongoing discussions with the Premier League in respect of the agreed improvements to both Bloomfield Road and its facilities it has been decided, by all parties, to reverse the club's opening-day fixture," said an official statement on Blackpool's website. |
